Star Wars Galaxies: What Aspects Should NOT be Included in TOR?

Although to this day I still consider Star Wars Galaxies as I remember it to be the greatest game I’ve ever played, it was not without its flaws. Some of them were large while others were hardly noticable. In continuation of my previous article, “Star Wars Galaxies: What Aspects Should be Included in TOR?” I have assembled a list of aspects of SWG that I pray do not make it into TOR.

1.Ignoring Parts of the game:  I understand that in an MMO it is inevitable to have aspects that are overpowered, underpowered, or just completley broken.  But in Star Wars Galaxies, there were parts of the game that were broken from the get go, and were not fixed during my three years of playing, making it seem like they were completley ignored.  For instance, there were large areas of planets that were barricaded off by a force field, and inside was a Rebel vs. Imperial battleground.  What those were supposed to be were large battlefields including players and npcs alike, the concept was really cool but it was never fixed.  Being an Imperial, i was quite disappointed by this because i was working on getting myself an AT-AT that could only be used in the battlegrounds.

2.Dancer/Musician Classes:  Although I do not hate the idea of having dancer/musician classes, I do not think they would lend well to Bioware’s ultimate goal, they have already said that they want to make it so that everyone is in a heroic position, and frankly, I don’t know how heroic the life of Figrin D’an was.  If player dancers and musicians do make it to TOR, I hope that they will side jobs, as opposed to full time classes.

3.Poor PVP: SWG’s PVP system both on the ground and in space was mediocre at best, it had only world PVP, as the Battlegrounds were broken throughout my 3 years of activity.  For me, as I’m sure it is for many people, PVP is not just an addon for the game, it’s a crucial part of the experience.  If there is anything that I pray that Bioware gets right, its the PVP system.

4.Trying to Emulate WoW:  In its later years, after the release of World of Warcraft, the SWG developers began to panic as they saw their subscriber base slipping, they took drastic, game changing steps, to save their game.  They completley revamping the gameplay and class structure of the game, turning it from a more diverse class system, to nine iconic classes, including Jedi, removing the prestige of being a Jedi.  It was clear that this step was in an attempt to emulate the winning formula of WoW and in turn it was the nail in the coffin for SWG.
