Last Friday bought us a new issue of Bioware, and Darkhorse comic’s “Threat of Peace” and with it, the announcement of a new planet in the Old Republic’s universe.

Ord Mantell, the Mid-Rim planet with regions of volcanic islands and mountainous plains, is alligned with the Republic officially, however, as stated on the info page for Ord Mantell, “despite the planet’s status as a critical Republic military outpost, the local government is controleld by criminal elements.”

Ord Mantell is one of the many planets in the galaxy that is being terrorized by the vicious civil war.  In this situation, Republic soldiers continually encounter Separatists guerillas who strike both military and civilan targets.

As for Ord Mantell’s history:  “The info page says that Corellian colonists settled Ord Mantell nine thousand years ago, and the planet became a staging point for republic miilitary operations in the Outer Rim.”  As its strategic value faded, the military all but abandoned the planet, allowing smugglers and other criminal sorts to take over the local government.
