What’s So Great About Ord Mantell You Ask?

We saw the release of another planet by BioWare, Ord Mantell, and obviously we were all excited. We’re always excited when there is new content released and we are shown glimpses into what is going to be available in the game. With the release of Ord Mantell and the release of Nal Hutta, we have a few planets to really start playing around with. It sort of makes sense too. On Nal Hutta, we know where a bounty hunter might be appropriate to start. Wait…The Bounty Hunter was announced. On Tython, the Jedi. On Korriban, the Sith. So, what does this mean for Ord Mantell?

republicbaseWell, let’s take a look at the description. Taken directly from SWTOR.com, it states, “Republic forces are fighting elusive Separatists who are conducting guerilla style strikes against both military and civilian targets.” So, there are Republic forces already there fighting Separatists. This place is currently in Republic control, but it’s dealing with a civil war. That obviously sucks. However, consider the fact that it says Republic forces. It’s not saying Jedi and it’s not saying Sith. The words are Republic forces. This is obviously a really good contender for a starting place for a Republic soldier.

Does that mean that we’re going to have a republic soldier as a class? I think that it won’t be titled “republic soldier,” but instead, it’ll be a soldier class, but you pick your side. So, the unique story will come in based on which side you pick. I digress…This is an ideal place to throw people in because it’d be a great staging place to learn the ropes. There’s combat going on so already, you have the opportunity to have an epic scenario. That’s something they’ve talked about. Furthermore, there’s the chance for some really interesting storyline. It’s not just going to all be, “Kill that Sith!” There will be other enemies which I like.

I look at Ord Mantell and I see a lot of possibility. I like the fact that the planets they’re picking are not the steriotypical ones. Okay, Korriban is separatiststrongholdsteriotypical. Tython is not, though. Nal Hutta is not. Ord Mantell is not. They’re taking planets that are really interesting and playing around with them. They’re planets we really don’t know all that well. I like that!

If Ord Mantell is a starting planet, great. It’ll be a place for players to learn the game and not feel so isolated. It’s a military base so naturally, you’re around other soldiers. That’s kind of an exciting thing and I guess I have to get excited about another class. But I better not jump the gun since I don’t know for certain that there is a soldier class. I might be horribly mistaken and that would be kind of funny. Maybe, instead of it being a place for a Republic soldier, it’s a place to play as a Separtist…Who really knows?
