A recent interview in Edge Magazine with Bioware’s director of The Old Republic, James Ohlem, confirms one more class to the ever growing rerepertoire.  The Interview confirmed the much anticipated (at least for me) Smuggler class, and it even confirmed the Smugglers starting planet as Ord Mantell, their recently announced planet.  As Ord Mantell is a world of enormous criminal empires that control nearly every aspect of the planet, it seems to serve as the perfect setpeice for a Smuggler.  On the topic of the starting world, Ohlem says,

“Ord Mantell is a war-torn world and it’s where the Smuggler starts off, when his ship gets stolen. He’s pretty angry; imagine what Han Solo would’ve been like if the Millennium Falcon got taken.”

Personally I am beyond esthatic for this announcement.  When I first heard of the new Star Wars MMO from Bioware, my mind instantly went back to the times of Star Wars Galaxies and how compelling the Smuggler class was.  Now I am not necesarily expecting a carbon copy of the SWG Smuggler, but I do expect that aspect such as slicing weapons and dirty fighting will return.
