A couple of weeks ago, the official website of Star Wars: The Old Republic released a review of their presenece at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, 2009 (better known as E3 09). It’s no surprise that with all that they announced (see below) they would recieve a great deal of attention and even awards. But what is a surprise is just how many awards TOR managed to rank in. 29 is the magic number, all from respected video game websites. So without further delay I’ll list em off:
CrispyGamer.com named TOR the best overall game at E309.
G4tv.com gave them the award for best trailer of E309.
GamePro.com gave TOR the E3 2009 Gold Medal.
GamersPlus gave them the award for best trailer of E309.
Gamespot.com gave TOR both best PC game and best MMORPG of e3 2009.
Gamespy.com gave TOR four awards! PC Game of Show, MMO Game of Show, Best Trailer, and Best Use of a License.
Gametrailers.com called TOR the Best Online Game.
IGN.com gave TOR the awards for Best PC Game, PC Game of the Year, Best Persistent Online Game, Special Achievement for Technological Excellence, and Best Artistic Design.
Jeuxonline.info called TOR the Best PC Game.
Jeuxvideo.com called TOR the Best PC Game, and the Best MMORPG.
Joystiq affirmed that TOR was the Best of E3 2009.
MMORPG.com gave TOR the Editors Choice Award, and Best Showing of an MMO for E3.
RockPaperShotgun.com gave TOR the awards for Favorite Game, Best Booth Design, and Smelliest T-Shirt.
TenTonHammer.com called TOR the E3 2009 Best of Show.
VE3D Readers Choice said that TOR is the Best PC RPG, Biggest “Holy S@*t!” Moment, Best Trailer, and the Game of Show.
If you missed the announcements at E3, here is a brief list of all the official and unofficial announcements:
TOR will be the first EVER fully voiced MMORPG.
The Smuggler was announced at E3 with the official announcement on their site about a week later.
In one of the interviews, the developers confirmed that PVP would be in the game, they were just not ready to discuss it yet.
There will be a cover system in TOR.
There is a Multiplayer Dialogue System, meaning that players can engage in the storyline choices in the game.
Unique Class Stories, meaning that each class will have its own fully fleshed out story.
Certainly these announcements are monumental for the entire history of Massive Multiplayer Online RPGs and there is no doubt in my mind that there will be more to come from the team at Bioware. I am incredibly excited to see what turns this game will take in the coming months, and how it will develop into its own unique experience. Look out Blizzard, Star Wars: The Old Republic is looking like its shaping up to become a WoW Killer!
