So what have we learned from this past E3? For starters, every player will have their own class based star ship that will serve of their base of operations, much like the Normandy serves in Mass Effect, and the Ebon Hawk served in Knights of the Old Republic. Also, that each class will follow a basic armor progression that is made personal by the player’s ability to choose from thousands of different options in each category. Also, that PVP will take place in battleground format, very similar to World of Warcraft, and that their first announced battleground, is the planet of Alderaan.
What does all this mean? Well it means that the game is coming along well. However, as we begin closing in on what seems to be the final stretch of the development cycle, I am not without my concerns. Playing an MMORPG means being a single character in a massive world with thousands of other players, all the while maintaining enough of a sense of individuality to prevent from blending in perfectly with everyone else. My main concern is that Bioware, with their history of making fantastic single player titles, may not be addressing that sense of individuality that makes your character in an MMO worth more than anyone else.
With the beautiful looking ships, it makes me wonder, are they all going to be absolutely identical? How much customization will we be able to implement to make our ships, and our characters our own. Also, I understand that there is going to be a lot of armor customization options for each class, but will the options be distinguishable enough.
Regardless of this concern, I am still confident that Bioware will be able to make our several-hundreds-of-hours adventure into Star Wars: The Old Republic more than worth the wait, I just pray that it doesn’t go the route of World of Warcraft, where at the higher levels, everyone has the same armor, the same weapons, the same mount, the same everything.

During the Darth Hater interview, the guy said that customizable ships has not been announced yet. He said this with a smile, so I don’t know if it’s something they’re considering or not. Surely it’ll be something they think about. Being able to decorate the interior of your ship would also be fun, ala Star Wars Galaxies. I remember going into several player houses and starships that were phenominally laid out, and make me wonder a time or two if my guildmates were actually interior decorators.
In my opinion, it would be a disappointment to me if that wasn’t in the game, but there will be more than enough content to keep me satisfied.

As a former SWG player myself, I couldn’t agree more in terms of being able to make your starship (or home) your own in terms of layout. I remember when the Jump to Lightspeed expansion came out and I recieved my SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht. I laid it out with all of my gear and furniture and truly made it my home. With the degree of excitement he was using to describe customizable ships, I think it’s fairly safe to say that they will make it to the final game. Thanks for the comment!
