Four New Races Revealed

With the news today, four new races were revealed specific to a certain class. These races were specific to the force users and add to the Rattataki as a Bounty Hunter, Chiss as an Imperial Agent and Twi’lek as a Smuggler. This leaves just the Trooper without a secondary race. The Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor each got their own class today. While my opinion about the specificity of classes to races is different than BioWare’s–I’ll elaborate a little more on that at the bottom of this post–it is pretty cool that they are releasing so many playable, humanoid race.

Here are the potential races that you can play as if you decide to play with that specific class. Check them out.

The Revealed Classes

The first race revealed was the Miraluka. The Miraluka are from a planet that have no visible light waves, so their only way to see things is through the force. They are characterized as having a blind fold of sorts over their eyes. However, they make incredible Jedi Knights because they are so attune with the Force. Miraluka Jedi Knights can charge into battle even though they can’t see with their eyes and their lightsabers can do a pretty number on any foe.

The next race revealed was the Mirialan. They are known for their agility and facial tattoos and because of how wise and mystical they are, they make incredible Jedi Consulars. When the Mirialan leads into battle, he uses his incredible powers with the Force to defeat all enemies that get in his way. With their incredible patience and insight, they make an incredible opponent on the battlefield who, should you run into one, expect to be bombarded with Force attacks.

The third race revealed was the Sith Pureblood. For those that remember their history, the Dark Jedi were exiled and landed on Korriban. When there, they became Gods to the Sith Purebloods and after cross breeding, we got the likes of Naga Sadow and others. These Purebloods are now available to be played in TOR. The class that this race is specific to is the Sith Warrior. They are a very aggressive race and because of this, they will make a formidable foe.

The final race revealed was the Zabrak. For those that remember, Darth Maul was a Zabrak and he plays the Sith Inquisitor role very well. Succeeding in becoming a Sith Inquisitor is difficult, but the Zabrak have it in them to do this. Therefore, when going against a Zabrak Inquisitor, expect to fight hard against them. Their red skin, tattoos and horns make them a scary foe without even adding on the fact that they are both powerful with the Force and their lightsaber.

My Reaction

I like that there are a lot more races revealed. These are really exciting ones, but I am incredibly bummed that they sound specific to classes. While I understand the Zabrak is known for Darth Maul, there are many other Zabrak who were Jedi. It just seems a bit short sighted of BioWare to make it so specific. But, then I wonder if they have to for content. I don’t know. It just seems like they were trying a little too hard to go with the archetypes that they might limit our own creativity.

Other than that, though, I really am pleased with the races released. I am glad that the Wookiee hasn’t be released because I don’t want to see people playing them. But, that’s just me. If BioWare does it, that’ll be specific to either the Smuggler or the Bounty Hunter, that much is certain.

In your opinion, are you happy with the races or would you prefer others? Chime in down in the comments!

From all the lore behind Star Wars as a whole, wellie there is no race or gender specifications to being light side or dark side. While the initial news would make it seem that Bioware is deviating from this, I have a strong suspicion that they are just messing with us right now.

I fully expect to see almost any race/class combo when the game releases. While I could be wrong about this, I feel Bioware would be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn’t expand on this.

While I hope that is the case, Jeremy, I am beginning to get worried. BioWare is very good at revealing information in a specific manner and the fact that they revealed these races as specifics has me worried. I will hope until the game is released–or they reveal more information–that there will be more choice, but I am a bit worried.

I’m going to completely agree with you on this issue. However, it seems really ignorant of Bioware to limit some of these races to specific classes. There is no reason a Zabrak wouldn’t be able to play Sith Warrior as well. While the Empire has strict limitations on their soldiers being human, I recall many near-human characters being allowed to join their ranks.

If these races really are class specific, then I think we can expect a massive amount of races to be revealed. For a lot of players, they’ve grown attached to a particular race, and I fear that they will either follow that race and play a class they dislike, or abandon the race in favor of a class they would prefer. If anything, Humans can play every class, and that’s what I intend on being.

I do disagree with the Wookie aspect, but I can see where you’re coming from. They would be much better companion characters, and I can guarantee the Smuggler will have a Wookie companion. I know it’s not confirmed, but I would bet money on it.

I think a Wookiee would make a great companion character. However, after seeing Chewbacca and Hanharr, I imagine people would love to play a Wookiee. Personally, I think it’s just overkill. But, that’s just my opinion.
