All Advanced Classes Revealed – GamesCom 2010

GamesCom is going on in Germany and that means that we are going to be getting a ton of reveals over the next couple of days. The first one–other than the space combat in TOR video–is the advanced class reveals. BioWare decided that it was time to release the different advanced classes and I have to say, some of them are pretty cool. We already know the Jedi advanced classes, but now we have the chance to know the other advanced classes as well.

As you might recall, each class has two advanced classes. These are meant to create a total of sixteen different classes. It allows for you to really customize how you want your character to be and more importantly, allows you to enter the universe in the way that you always fantasized you would. So, here are the advanced classes.

  • Jedi Knight: The Jedi Sentinel and the Jedi Guardian as mentioned in the previous post. The Sentinel is more of a DPS while the Guardian is more of a tank.
  • Imperial Agent: Operative which relies on blaster rifles, energy blades, stealth and burst ranged damage. The other is Sniper which relies on sniper rifle, dps and this is the counterpart to the Gunslinger class of the smuggler.
  • Bounty Hunter: All we know is that they’re called Mercenary and Powertech.
  • Jedi Consular: Shadow which relies on the double bladed and the Wizard which uses a single blade and healing.
  • Trooper: Commando which uses heavy armor and is a tank and then the Vanguard which relies on DPS.
  • Smuggler: Gunslinger which is dual pistols, quick draw and ranged DPS. The other is Scoundrel which is healing, burst ranged damage and stealth.

My only real problem with all of this was the Jedi Consular. Wizard? Seriously? I wouldn’t consider Yoda a wizard in any respect. I don’t know. I just think that BioWare ran out of names for the different advanced classes and the Jedi Consular suffered. I would rather see something else, but even I can’t come up with something.

With these advanced classes released, do you know which one you plan on playing as? I am tempted to go with the Jedi Knight Guardian, but the Trooper keeps looking more and more appealing.

I’m really excited to see more elaboration on these classes. The Powertech in particular. The Trooper Vanguard sounds really, really cool.

I am looking forward to seeing what they release about the Powertech. The Bounty Hunter advanced classes is the only ones where there was no real information, but you can sort of guess what they’re going to be about.

Regarding the Wizard’s name, I would suggest borrowing from the already established style of Mass Effect, ie: Adept, Bastion, Sentinel.

Just a thought. Wizard does seem a tad like the bright purple piece that doesn’t quite fit but might have to in order for the puzzle to work.

I think that they are changing it because of the massive negative response they got from the name. What they’re changing it to, though, is unknown yet.
