For over 20,000 years, the Jedi Order has worked diligently to promote peace and balance throughout the Republic. Every day that the Jedi work on promoting peace and balance, though, new threats pop up to try and damage the Order and the Republic. Because of this, there is a tremendous need for leaders. Fortunately, the Jedi Order have their leaders: the Jedi Consular.
The Jedi Consular gains their power by channeling the Force for wisdom when in diplomacy and strength when in combat. Through many tough years of meditation, the mind of a Jedi Consular has become very sharp. No matter what the Jedi Consular is trying to do, their incredible understanding of the Force easily provides all the power they need to step up to any challenge. Whether that is a fight against a Dark Lord of the Sith or a heated diplomatic problem, a good command of the Force can give the Consular all he needs to succeed.

Because of how connected they are to the Force, they understand how to be both empathetic and insightful about issues. However, while they are incredibly talented at talking and getting through situations in that manner, should things turn hostile, they are not adverse to doing combat. They are able to handle their double-bladed or single bladed Lightsaber with incredible precision, deflecting any strike–laser or another blade.
Overall, a Jedi Consular’s ultimate purpose is to gain more knowledge. By understanding themselves, they can have a greater control over the Force. Because of how much knowledge a Consular can gain, it is not uncommon for them to have the most clarity on a battlefield. However, while this might be the case, the pursuit of knowledge can be incredibly dangerous to a Jedi Consular. At times, it can be appealing to mingle with the Dark Side. It takes a Jedi Consular’s true understanding of himself not to fall to the temptations. Before they can defeat that evil, they must first accept that it is there. To do that, they must appreciate that other Jedi have fallen to it in the past. This prevents them from falling as well.
Jedi Consular in Star Wars: The Old Republic
Available footage suggests that the Jedi Consular is going to be a mixture of a possible DPS as well as a healer. Depending on how the class is specced determines exactly the way they will behave in a battle. The Jedi Consular does rely on his Lightsaber, but the Force is their true weapon and therefore, the majority of their attacks will probably be Force ones. That doesn’t mean that he won’t use his Lightsaber to finish off an enemy.
The Consular’s attire is very smooth and free flowing. They are not interested in wearing armor like their counterparts in the Jedi Order. Instead, the more lightweight their robes are, the better it will serve them when in combat. Because of this, it can be expected that the Jedi Consular will be wearing what is the very typical Jedi attire found in the movies and in the literature.
Combat tactics will be very interesting for the Consular. As mentioned above, while there is the Lightsaber, the majority of their attacks will come from the Force. Using immense amounts of the Force, enemies can be crushed and brushed aside like nothing. But, when the time comes to swing their double-bladed Lightsaber, anticipate the attack to be fast and lethal; their force is lethal as is their Lightsaber.
The Jedi Consular plays the role of ambassador and visionary. Without the Consular, the Jedi Order would be without knowledge. Without this knowledge, there is no denying that the Empire would have rolled over the Republic very quickly. However, despite the fact the Consular is an integral part of the war effort, without other classes to support the Consular–or for the Consular to support–the war would be a complete failure. They can’t do it alone.
