The Jedi Knight is the symbol of hope for the Republic. He stands for everything that the Jedi have been since their formation 20,000 years ago. Though they have played numerous different roles in those years–as generals, scouts, ambassadors, etc–they have always remembered their basic purpose to protect the galaxy. It is because of this that they are referred to as the valiant, determined guardian of peace for the galaxy.
The Jedi Knight is, through and through, a warrior who has spent years perfecting their body through exercise and perfecting their minds through meditation. It is this intense harmony matched with the living Force that gives the Jedi Knight the ability to do their job throughout the galaxy. Because of all of this, they are able to do combat in such an artistic format that their acrobatic techniques appear immensely graceful. With their execution of elite lightsaber maneuvers, the Jedi Knight is an intense warrior to have on your side in a conflict.
Because of the Jedi Order’s vast history of fighting for the Republic in an effort to keep peace and justice throughout the galaxy, Jedi Knights have gained a large number of friends. However, because of their consistent assault on injustice, they have gained a considerable number of enemies as well. While there are these enemies, very few have the courage to go head to head with a seasoned Jedi Knight because of the years of discipline and training these warriors have. Those that do, though, rarely come allowed unscathed.
Since the war broke out, the Sith have been able to claim victory after victory. It all came to an end when the Treaty of Coruscant was signed. Since then, the Jedi have relocated from Coruscant to Tython, their planet of origin. While many in the Republic see this move as a sign that the Jedi are no longer loyal to the Republic, their resolve has never been greater. The Jedi Knight will continuously fight for the Republic and for Democracy. Until their last number, they will fight to ensure that other inhabitants in the galaxy have their freedoms.
Jedi Knight in Star Wars: The Old Republic
The Jedi Knight in TOR acts as a mixture of different characters. According to available footage, it appears as if the Jedi Knight is a DPS kind of character that handles the outside characters while the tank fights the main problem. The Jedi Knight relies heavily on his lightsaber, knowing full well that very few in the galaxy can rival him when it comes to a fight. Even with lasers coming at them, the Jedi Knight can usually walk out of the fight unscathed.
For the most part, a Jedi Knight is going to have his robes. These are the staple of a Jedi Knight and they might be thin cloth ones or heavier leather ones, but there will be robes. However, what differs about the Jedi Knights in TOR and the Jedi Knights in the movies is that the Jedi in TOR will have armor. They might have entire suits of armor underneath their robes or they might have just bits of pieces–shoulders, legs, etc. But, there will be armor.
Some of what you can expect in terms of combat is a mixture of deflections, melee blocks and force attacks. For example, a Jedi Knight might be blocking laser bolts from three different opponents around him. The Jedi Knight might then use a Force Push to kill the first opponent, deflect a laser and destroy the second opponent and then slice the third opponent with the lightsaber. In other words, combat with the Jedi Knight will be intense.
All in all, the Jedi Knight is an important class to have in the game. He is the guardian of peace and through incredible determination, ensures that the galaxy truly is safe. Without him, the Empire would have taken over the entire Republic. However, like all classes, he cannot do his job alone. There are numerous other classes that are there to help in the fight.
